Turning Scrap Material into Something New: Pro-Tent and KitePride Are Committed to Active Sustainability
What happens to high-quality materials when they can no longer be used for their original purpose? For Pro-Tent, the answer is clear: whenever possible, they shouldn’t simply become waste but should find a new use. Together with KitePride, we’re now taking this idea a step further.
Keeping Materials in the Cycle Longer
For us at Pro-Tent, sustainability means more than just ensuring quality, durability, and responsible use of resources in new products. Equally important is the question of what happens to materials that are generated during our production process or can no longer be used for their original purpose.
Especially with high-quality technical textiles, even scrap materials still hold a great deal of potential. Instead of disposing of these materials without using them, we want to create opportunities to reuse them and give them a new life cycle.
This is exactly where our collaboration with KitePride comes in.
New products are created from leftover materials
KitePride specializes in creating new products with character from existing and end-of-life materials. Among other things, kitesurfing sails and other fabrics are transformed into unique bags and accessories.
We’re thrilled that materials from Pro-Tent can now also find a new use in this way. Residual materials that we no longer need are given the chance at a second life—instead of becoming waste.
For us, this is a wonderful example of how sustainability can work in practice: An existing material isn’t hastily discarded, but is viewed as a valuable resource.
Sustainability doesn’t end with a product’s first life
At Pro-Tent, we develop and produce solutions designed for long-term use. High-quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and the longest possible service life are therefore central components of our understanding of quality.
However, even durable materials eventually reach a point where they are no longer needed for their original purpose. At the same time, the manufacturing process produces cut-offs and scraps that cannot always be reused in another Pro-Tent product.
This is precisely where we see potential
If such material can be turned into a bag or another durable product, its lifespan is extended. At the same time, the need for new raw materials is reduced, and what was once considered waste is transformed back into something valuable.
Every material continues to tell its story
What we find particularly exciting about upcycling is that the material’s original story is preserved. A fabric that was originally intended for a completely different purpose is transformed into a new product with a new function.
As a result, the resulting products are not only practical but also unique. The material’s texture, cut, and origin ensure that each piece has its own distinct character.
This approach aligns very well with our understanding of responsible resource management: using what we have for as long as possible, preserving quality, and creating new possibilities before valuable materials are discarded.
Taking Responsibility Together
For us, sustainability is not a one-time project, but an ongoing process. It’s about constantly reevaluating existing processes and seeking solutions that allow us to use resources more consciously.
Partnerships play an important role in this. After all, the circular economy works particularly well when different areas of expertise come together. What is waste material for one company can be a valuable raw material for a new product for another.
Our collaboration with KitePride exemplifies this principle perfectly.
We are therefore very much looking forward to this partnership and to working together to develop new ways to reuse our materials. At the same time, we are particularly pleased that the sustainability philosophy we pursue at Pro-Tent continues to live on beyond the original use of our products.

When new, durable products are created from leftover materials, it’s not just the companies involved that benefit. Resources are conserved, materials remain in circulation longer, and awareness of a more responsible use of raw materials is strengthened.
